CurtisLab takes 1st & 3rd at AIChE National Poster Competition!

At the 2016 National AIChE (American Institute of Chemical Engineers) Conference held in San Francisco, both CurtisLab undergraduate student posters placed in their division at the National level!
1st place - Ryan Jones presented on behalf of himself and Bennett McKinley, an NCSU student who collaborated in summer research through Penn' State's NSF Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU), Integration of Biology & Materials in Chemical Engineering program. Their poster entitled Expression and Purification of Plant Embryogenic Proteins, which describes CurtisLab's NSF BREAD project, took . 1st place
3rd place - Meanwhile, Lucas Nugent & Ben Geveke took 3rd place for their poster "Constructing and Testing a Photobioreactor Designed for Precise Characterizations of Growth of Microalgae for Biofuel Applications", which also represented a collaboration with Dr. Ramya, a visiting scholar supported by B-ACER (Bioenergy-Award for Cutting Edge Research) Fellowship.
Penn State AIChE, to which Dr. Curtis also serves as the Chapter Advisor, also had an impressive showing!
3rd place - Rioux Lab's Anirudh Nambiar also took 3rd Place place in the undergraduate paper competition for his research on the "Synthesis of organic carbonates in flow reactors" and earned a top honor: being one of 15 students selected nationally to receive a $1,000 Donald & Mildred Topp Scholarship!
2nd place - Adam Uliana took 2nd place in his poster division for his poster, "Textile wastewater treatment by biosinspired antimicrobial membranes" describing work done during his study abroad last semester with Drs. Zhu and Van der Bruggen.
4th place - Megan Ingall took 4th place for her poster, "Preparing Supported Metal Catalysts Coated with Thiols and Phosphonates".
