Background:
I start my PhD in Chemical Engineering here at Penn State in Fall 2017, but I started in CurtisLab Summer 2017. Prior to Penn State, I earned my BS in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering from Cornell University. Previous experience also includes a year and a half as an undergraduate research assistant in the DeLisa Research Group at Cornell University and a year at Zymtronix as the biocatalysis intern.
I love to ski in the winter and hike in the summer. And in my brief spare time I like to curl up on the couch with my two cats and knit or crochet.
Projects:
I am working on the Gates Foundation-sponsored NSF BREAD "Get Yams Into Farmers' Hands Project", developing the Temporary Immersion Bioreactors (TIBs) for use with cassava, yams and bananas. Specifically, I will be working on getting the TIBs up and running again in the new lab space and cloning, expressing, and testing other embryogenic proteins that could aid in somatic embryogenesis of the cassava, banana, and yam. The ultimate goal of the project is to successfully scale up the TIB to production scale for each of these plants.
